[RSS Feed/News] Add a criteria for trophy as part of addon?

Is there a guide/How-To somewhere that tells you how to add your own trophy criteria for a user? I've some fields added to the xf_user table as part of my addon and based on a certain value of that field, I would like to award a trophy to a user.
