[RSS Feed/News] Can you use a widget outside of the XF install folder?

My XF forum is located in a "forums" folder like this: www.example.com/forums/

My home page is www.example.com/index.html

I'd like to show "latest posts" or other similar widgets on my home page. Is this possible?
