[RSS Feed/News] Change forum type to add Suggestion to existing general discussion

We are just starting to use the new forum types and I want to introduce the suggestion format to an existing forum without changing the existing discussions. Is that possible?
I know I can create a non-suggestion thread in a suggestion forum by choosing that when posting but I do not know what happens when the forum is converted.
