[RSS Feed/News] forums lockup when s3 goes down

I knows it's expected behavior for Xenforo to not respond well when the s3 storage is offline. I'm wondering if other people see massive spikes in mysql requests from xenforo when this does happen. I keep trying to log into the admin CP to lock the forums so s3 requests can stop being made but even that is starting to not respond when S3 is down.
