We have created a custom front page on which we show a few widgets that show the most recent content. Using the New Threads widgets, we can limit the display of threads for a specific age. As an examaple we use a forum announcements widget (based on New Threads widget) that only shows forum announcements younger than 2 weeks. If no such threads exist, the widget won't be shown on the front page.
