[RSS Feed/News] Custom user permissions to Forums - User set

How can I set up where users set there preferences to a few forums. There is a few that I want the users to check a box in preferences to allow them in to the usergroup. That particular usergroup has access to that forum. I had this with Vbulletin, thought it transferred through but not.
